- One of the few secure facts about Heuraet is that he enrolled in Leiden in March 1653 to study medicine. He also studied mathematics under Schooten with Huygens and Hudde.
- In 1658 we know that he was at the Protestant university in Saumur for a time.
- Although one seems probable, there is no mention of a degree.
