Letters of Maria Celeste: 22 April 1631 Most Beloved Lord Father If your letter had not assured me that your illness is of no great concern, I would certainly have felt even more upset than I do: and hearing that you are improving quickly, I hold onto the hope of soon seeing you again in perfect health, as you promise me. We received via Vincenzio two dozen eggs and half a lamb, and we thank you, as we do, and even more so, for the four piastre which arrive in a time of great monetary need. La Piera is prepared to leave this instant, wherefore I reserve my writing for another day at greater length. Meanwhile I send you love with all my heart together with our usual friends. May Our Lord be with you always. From San Matteo, the 22nd day of April 1631. Your most affectionate daughter, |
