Letters of Maria Celeste: 26 November 1633 Most Beloved Lord Father Last Thursday I wrote to you at length, Sire, and now I write again only to tell you that yesterday there came ten barrels of wine from San Miniato di Tedesco. I hear from La Piera that Signor Aggiunti's servant arrived to pour it into the casks; and also that she paid him, though she cannot seem to tell me exactly how much: one cask is completely filled, and I believe it is the one that holds six barrels: as for the other of five and one-half, in order that it not remain half-empty, I told them to finish filling it with the wine they are drinking now, which is reasonably good, but first to draw off several flasks, before the mixing, to top off the cask of 6 barrels. And we will take some, too, because it is light wine, and seems to me to be perhaps a good summer wine for you, Sire; I like the lighter wine at this time of year as well: the cask that is not mixed will be distinguished by being left alone, and the other will take care of the servants. This for now is all I need to tell you: I close with the usual loving greetings, and pray Our Lord to keep you. From San Matteo, the 26th day of November 1633. Most affectionate daughter, |
